The old core (Altstadt) of Osnabruck, with its narrow alleys, is the ideal place to get away from the bustling throng of larger cities such as Munich and Berlin. Exploring the side lanes and discovering the small businesses and cafés with surprising rear patios was my favorite part of going around this town. Strolling toward the marketplace, including St Peter’s Cathedral, through the ancient town hall, St Mary’s Church (the Marienkirche), and the Gable houses (where the Hanseatic merchants used to live) is a must. The city center is small and intimate, making it ideal for street art expeditions!
The Americans may have given the world street art, but it was perfected in Germany. People started painting in the 1960’s on the side of The Berlin Wall, and through Berlin’s hedonistic heyday in the 1990s, when artists the world overcame to the capital to leave their mark.
