When discussing the geography of Dublin, in terms of stating whether Dublin 8 is north or southside, clarification is necessary. On his side of the River Liffey and fairly close to the city centre on which it flows, Dublin is divided along as north side and south side, the capital of Ireland. However, it is a little bit different with Dublin 8, which is split on either side, so it is a bit more complicated to say exactly where it is.

The North Side of Dublin

Dublin 8: A Unique Location

Dublin 8 is an exception as it is split between the North and South side. The split is done along the River Liffey with certain areas lying one side of the river and others the other.

To start with, one must abode landmark that resides in Dublin 8 is the Guinness Storehouse which could be found on the south side. This popular tourist site sees the history as well as production of the world famous Irish stout.

The South Side of Dublin 8

On the south side of Dublin 8 there are areas such as The Liberties, Kilmainham, and Portobello. The Liberties is a heritage area whose colorful history and cultural legacy, artistic vitality and traditional markets make it a dynamic place. Kilmainham is home to the Kilmainham Gaol which was a former prison turned into a museum. Portobello, with its canals and leafy streets, offers a tranquil and scenic environment.

The North Side of Dublin 8

On the northern side of Dublin 8 there’s areas like Inchicore and Islandbridge. Inchicore is also famous due to its stand point to the Gaol of Kilmainham and idyllic Irish National War Memorial Gardens that is close by. Islandbridge, a neighbourhood by the River Liffey and home to the beautiful Phoenix Park, one of the largest enclosed parks in any capital city in Europe.

Is Dublin 8 north or south then? The answer is both! Dublin 8 spans over the River Liffey, with some of it situated in north of the river, and other in south of the river. It is an interesting and varied place with lively districts and historic points.
