Christmas markets are old time street market where people went shopping at Christmas time mainly in Europe, and has been followed during the advent season before Christmas. 2. Funky Xmas Market at Westergas

3. Pure Markt

Although not a Christmas market per se, Pure Markt is a well known regular farmer’s market which takes place in various venues in and around Amsterdam. Appearing only around the holiday season, the market becomes a festive wonderland, including special booths selling various seasonal goodies, mulled wine and other holiday items.

Tips for Visiting Christmas Markets in Amsterdam

  • Make your plans ahead of time: Christmas markets in Amsterdam begin being open starting late November and continue until late December. Check which specific dates and opening hours of each marketplace are to avoid missing.
  • Dress for the occasion: Amsterdam can feel quite cold during the winter months so make sure to bundle up with layers, warm coat, hat, and most importantly gloves so that you can keep warm when shopping around the markets.
  • Bring dollars: Although most vendors are able to take card payments that are accepted but it is always a wise thing to bring some cash with you, especially for purchasing small things or buying food and drinks.

Taste the local savors: Do not reject the opportunity to try common Dutch extravagances oliebollen (fritter sort balls) and erwtensoep (split pea soup) while strolling through the markets.
