Hello, welcome to Southsea, a fun-filled seashore city on the southern part of England. While some of the activities mentioned above may cost some amount of money, here are some best free things to do in Southsea that can be enjoyed by everyone. Therefore in this guide, I will recommend several activities that you can engage in when in Southsea all of which are free. Well, so grab your best pair of shoes and wearing your explorer hat, let’s the journey of exploring the new destination- Southsea today!

1. Stroll Along Southsea Beach

The pipe line of the town can further be complemented by other attractions such as Southsea beach which is one of the most popular attractions in the town. Indeed, leisurely strolling along the promenade to take a view of the Solent and the Isle of Wight is hard to miss for one. This is the beautiful image of sitting surrounded by the sea and feeling its coolness beneath the feet and the sound of the surf in a calm atmosphere. The picturesque beach is also lined up with huts ideal for taking a picture or just taking a dip by the water.

2. Explore Southsea Castle

If one is keen in the history of the place, then the Southsea Castle is virtually a historians’ paradise. This fort is also very old as it was constructed in the 16th century and since then it was used to protect the coast against any foreign invasions. You have to pay some amount for entering the museum and exhibitions inside the castle but the exterior of the castle can be seen without any charges. Experience what it is like to be a defender of the town and look at the views of the sea through the eyes of the castle!

3. Visit The D-Day Story

To get fully engulfed in the drama and explore the great individual and group heroism of the soldiers, explore the D-Day landings at the D-Day Story museum. Nevertheless, although it is possible to pay to enter the museum, the other outdoor facilities are open to the public. Immerse yourself with on World War II and feel how priceless freedom was and how courageous the people were in fighting for it. If they chance to pause in the memorial garden where there are plaques before visiting the graveyard section of the cemetery.

4. Wander Through Canoe Lake Park

Tired of the noise and crowd of the town, go to Canoe Lake Park and enjoy the calmness there. This lake which lies adjacent grassed and shrubbed area is an excellent place for a picnic or taking a plain walk. Can feed the ducks, watch the swans swim around, or walk through a park and sit on the bench and have a moment of serenity. Also, it is very important to mention that if a family has children, the park has got the provision of swings, slides, and climbing frames.

5. Marvel at Southsea Model Village

Visit Southsea Model Village – a scenic village model that portrays an entire city in miniature. This lovely sight entails a set of stunning replicas of various buildings of importance in the country such as lighthouses, castles and even the Buckingham Palace among others. Although, unlike the street, there is an entry to the model village that costs a few pennies it is possible to observe all the marginal details from outside the modelling without having to pay the entrance fee. It is rather interesting and that makes it an excellent place for a walk in a park.

6. Enjoy Southsea’s Street Art

While at Southsea, one can take a self-tour of the colourful graffiti that is endemic in the town. Towering walls of Southsea are covered with impressive murals and painted masterpieces of different sizes, some of them are rather difficult to notice. Have a walk through some of the well lit streets such as Albert Road, Elm grove and others with an aim of appreciating art in a colorful manner. So, do not leave your camera at home to capture these splendid creations not forgetting that food should also be part of the zoo.

7. Attend Southsea’s Festivals and Events

Southsea like other cities also have different festivals in different times and most of them are open for every one. It could be a music concert and art exhibitions or a craft fairs, or it could be seasonal event, or just some special occasion, there is always something happening in Southsea. On the prime target of observe local magazine and attendants to various social events so as to be part of the crescive events. Share experience while participating in the events, get acquainted with the population, and, maybe, become friends with them.

Although this is not the completely free tool, I could not pass it as the suggestion because of how useful it really is. Portsmouth Historic Dockyard provides tourists with many attractions such as the HMS Victory and the Mary Rose Museum. As you’ll be visiting several attractions within Portsmouth, a Portsmouth Historic Dockyard ticket is recommended and economically wise if bought because it offers the ticket holder entry to several areas.
