Venice offers a shockingly low evening atmosphere, despite its abundance of clubs, streets, and canals full of tourists. Palermo – like you’ve never seen it! Hidden, strange, enthralling, and enigmatic… We’ll show you how the past mysteries of the city merge with the city’s current innovation. Learn about some interesting local characters as well as our international talents. Your eyes will become hyper-aware and all of your senses will open up in a second as we walk through Palermo with our noses pointed above.
This Palermo Free Alternative Street Art Tour differs significantly from those offered on more traditional tours. Discover street art on the sides of walls, home facades, doors and gates, balconies, and even window shutters along historic passageways and on the sides of walls.
Palermo’s walls are decorated with murals, posters, and graffiti, all of which provide life and color to the city. The local scene here evolves on a daily basis, from the “Borgo Vecchio Factory” (a social initiative launched through a crowdfunding effort to modernize the Borgo Vecchio’s working-class section) to many other projects including well-known national and international street artists. This trip reveals a pulsing creativity that most people are unaware of, and it gives the city a fresh perspective.
Walking through the traditional alleyways of Palermo’s most well-known areas, you come across a vast array of beautiful paintings where the old and the new coexist peacefully. Ema Jones and her young companions created octopuses, dogs, and whales, as well as complex portraits by French artist Coquellicotte Mafille.
Then there are the characters from the Odyssey created by London artist Pang, who have brought ancient poems to life for a younger audience. Everything depicts a unique interplay between artists and their families, between art and popular culture, and between the streets and beauty. The journey then continues to the Vuccira, which may be described as a brand-new open-roof museum, experimentation lab, and street art frontier.
