Amsterdam is a city in the North Holland province of the Netherlands and is the country’s capital city. The province is in fact a part of a region which consists out of a number of provinces is called Randstad.

The North Holland Province

North Holland is one among the twelve provinces that falls under the Dutch Kingdom. It is one of the western regions of the country and is marked by its borders with the regions of South Holland, Utrecht, and Flevoland. The province lies at the southwestern part of the country and is bounded by the North Sea on the west.

North Holland is one of the provinces in the Netherlands that include; Amsterdam, Haarlem, Alkmaar and Zaandam among others. Amsterdam being the largest city in the province, it is the capital city and the cultural center of the region.

The Randstad Region

The Randstad is a megalopolis in the western part of the area of the Netherlands. It is a complex of several cities and embraces a large part of the total population and gross national product.

The region include four leading cities; the Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the Hague and Utrecht. The location of Amsterdam in the Randstad also offers it an advantage of interacting with these other cities and hence vibrant.

It is for these reasons that Amsterdam it is a famous tourist destination that is loved by people of all ages.
