What to Do in Amsterdam Alone at Night
Even solo travelers will find that there is plenty to be done in Amsterdam. Night exploring of the city is about an adventure and fun thing. If you are on your own in Amsterdam at night and don’t know what to do, here are some suggestions of things you can do to make your evening.
1. Go for a take a Stroll Along the Canals
When it comes to Amsterdam, famous for its picturesque canals, its canals are every bit as pretty at night as they are in the day. Enjoy the peaceful nature of the place by taking some leisurely walk along the canals. Light installations that illuminate the waterways also give an atmospheric boost to the Amsterdam Light Festival, from late November to early January.
2. Visit the Red Light District
Amsterdam’s most famous neighbourhood is, of course, the Red Light District. It is not for everyone but it is very much an interesting area to save time when it follows through in darkness and very cold. Go for a walk in the district and observe the atmosphere. It is also important to be respectful of the rules in the area.
3. Experience Amsterdam’s Nightlife
And of course, the nightlife is something that Amsterdam is outstanding for. Go to one of the city’s many bars, clubs or live music venues and make the most of the throbbing atmosphere. Nightlife is there around Leidseplein with Rembrandtplein following with everything from disco to pubs.
4. Explore the Dam Square
Between day and night, the Dam Square is alive with Amsterdam beating, particularly in the heart of Amsterdam. Take in the Royal Palace illuminated with the historical buildings in the surrounding square. The winter months see a charming ice skating rink appear if you visit.
5. Discover the Anne Frank House
It is a bit of an important historical site in Amsterdam. Even though it isn’t open until late at night, you can still come when it is dark to avoid crowds and enjoy a more beautiful atmosphere. This museum gives a very haunting insight into Anne Frank’s life during World War II.
6. Enjoy a Canal Cruise
One of the things that make visiting Amsterdam special is seeing the city from a new angle. Go for a canal cruise at night to see the city’s beauty coming alive. If you get plenty of notice of the sunset, many tour companies also offer evening cruises with commentary and fascinating insights into Amsterdam’s history and architecture.
7. Indulge in Dutch Cuisine
During your stroll around Amsterdam, don’t forget to try something local, at least from the Dutch cuisine side of things. Delicious treats to try include bitterballen (deep fried meatball), stroopwafels (waffle made with syrup in the middle) or haring (herring). Visit a local restaurant or go to a food stall to have an experience of an authentic cuisine.
8. Relax in Vondelpark
Vondelpark is a good place to head to if you need a tranquil escape. It is, as I said, beautiful park for taking a walk in the evening, or a quiet moment. Sit by the water, enjoy the green surrounds and if you’re lucky there’s even a late night open air performance theater.
9. Visit the Coffee Shops
There are, of course, the famous Amsterdam coffee shops where you can legally purchase and consume marijuana products. If you don’t drink, it’s still interesting to go inside one of these facilities, for the experience of Dutch culture and ambience.
10. Attend a Cultural Event
For each trip to Amsterdam, learn more about what cultural events are on during your visit. Featuring music, theatre performances, exhibitions, and festivals, the city has allegedly diverse range of events. Almost certainly there is some event that will interest you if you enjoy classical music, contemporary art or anything in between.
Conclusion
After sun sets, Amsterdam has plenty to offer to solo travelers. From I got him working out on the canals to advised him on what to do on the night time, his exploring was unique. Good luck to everyone in this amazing and very interesting city, so remember to stay safe, respect local customs and such thing as make the best of it!
