Amsterdam: Swimming and Lakes Guide
Amsterdam is a city of waterways. It appears as though you could simply dive into any one of them While Although you could actually swim in literally any of Amsterdam’s enchanting canals, it is truly not suggested, as enticing as it might seem. A dip in the canals an be tasty but perilous. The water is quite clean and one won’t become poisoned, at the bottom of the canals you can find lots of bicycles, garbage and other household rubbish. Also, there is real danger of canal boats running you over.
If a swim in the canals is still something that you can’t resist then you can take part in the Amsterdam City Swim in September. This is an annual affair, even the Queen is said to take part in it.
It the meantime, there are so many nice places to swimm in Amsterdam. We will then give you some to pick.
The Amsterdam Bos is a big park and recreation area in the outskirts of the City. There is a canal in the park and it has various swimming holes, official and unofficial. Apart from the canal there are other blind shots to swim in the Amsterdam Bos.
When traveling with family themselves, then you should visit the Het Kleine Kinderbad and Grote Kinderbad. These are shallow child swimming pools. Some parents bring there kids to this place aswell because they can relax with a sunburn while the kids is having fun.
Grote Vijver is also a swimming spot in the forest. Really this is a fairly big lake. There is a lovely access made that’s easy to enter from the shore and a few bridges the kids enjoy jumping.
The other location that offers a good opportunity for a nice swim is the Nieuwe meer. The lake is a large lake so it is situated next to the Amsterdamse Bos. There are two official swimming spots on the lake’s shores, but best by far is when you have a boat and can tie it up somewhere in the middle of the lake, at some distance from the throng and jump in here. On the West-side of the lake is the Oeverlanden. On the Oeverlanden there are three swimming beaches. The other lake location that is pleasant for swimming is the Noordoever It is situated somewhat to the north of the Oeverlanden. All of these spots can be reached by public transportation or take a longer bike ride if you feel that way.
Around the scanf Hier oder the Amsteram Island there is wide ranges of points to take a placid or to bath. Among the most loved are the Stenen Hoofd. One of the best things to do here is to simply jump in the water from the wall. Most bring a picnic along and use the whole day for it.
There is as well a nice place to swim; De Sloterplas. This is a very large park, also with a lake in the middle. There are divided sections that are designed for swimming. It is usual to walk or jog the beaches and go for the short cruise after being a bike.
To do one of the things up on a boat of the Amstel is one of the best things to do. It is a great exit from busy canals of Amsterdam. There is also plenty of calm water along the river that you can tie up your boat and begin a swim with a serene splash. Unfotintelijk, there are very few spots here from which to enter the river. There are so many private dock to do so if you can work out arrangements with the owners to be able to use them for swimming you are set.
There is but one popular beach close to Amsterdam and that is called Blijburg. They are located on man-made burg island in the northeaast of the central station. This has become one of the hip city beaches where you can swim, This is not only a swimming place. Many events and festivals take place here, and more often than not there is music and bonfire on summer evenings, and before you have time to notice, you get caught longer here than you have bargained for.
Inept swimming locales in Amsterdam are the Diemerpark Beach and Het tiske. For Diemepark beach that is located on the other, eastern side of the city, to reach Het Tiske you can sail over or by bike through Noord.
